James J Braddock, The Cinderlla Man. World Heavyweight Champion of the World, 1935 - 1937

Abstract
James J. Braddock was born on June 7th, 1905 to Irish immigrant parents in New York City. Even though he desired to be a firefighter or train engineer, he turned out to be an aggressive, entertaining boxing champion that outlasted the Great Depression. His career lasted for fifteen years, and he fought nearly 100 battles in the ring. He began his career at the age of 21, and he started his record with a no decision, followed up by 36 wins. Of these 36 wins, 11 in a row were won by knockouts, and eight of these knockouts were performed in the first round. His early career was very respectable, and he owned the light heavyweight crown from 1925 to 1926. He then charged into the heavyweight division, where he still did decent against his opponents. His career hit a downfall when he was matched up with a former light heavyweight fighter, Tommy Loughran, and was made to look like an amateur through the 15 round war. After this battle, he lost nearly 20 decisions, and his fighting license was taken from him and he wasn't given any more fights. By luck, after 9 months of no real income, Braddock's manager set up a fight with John "Corn" Griffin because no other fighter would fight Lewis on such short notice. Braddock, against all the odds, won the match and then went on to fight John Henry Louis, whom he defeated. He was matched against Art Lasky, who was the top heavyweight contender, and after 15 tough rounds, Braddock won! He then fought Max Baer, and the sports announcers projected a 10 to 1 victory for Baer, who had recently killed 2 men in the ring. Braddock outlasted him, and became the heaveyweight champion after not fighting for 9 months. He then had enough money to support his family, and he retired with them to their house in New Jersey.

Grapes of Wrath Quote-
"Wherever they’s a fight so hungry people can eat, I’ll be there. . . .
An’ when our folks eat [what] they raise an’ live in the houses they build . . . I’ll be there."
